  • NEWPORT SCHOOL CLOSURE:  Governor Tom Wolf announced that all K-12 Pennsylvania schools will be closed effective Monday, March 16th.  No one may use the district facilities at this time.

    Dear Newport Families,

We hope that this email finds your family well.  This message is to communicate the most current information in our procedures in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.  We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we adapt and plan with each new challenge this unprecedented situation brings.  Our administrative team is meeting on a daily basis to discuss and review regulations and guidance that are being provided by the state.  At this time, state entities have guided us to forgive the next 10 school days with no make-up expectation.  During this time, free resources for all students are being made available via the Newport District website and social media accounts.  These free resources can be used by families at your discretion. District administration and staff have been preparing and are continuing to plan for flexible methods of future instructional delivery, to be implemented after state clarification of guidelines.

We have submitted an application to the state for approval of our meal delivery plan.  If approved, we will communicate the details of that plan.  We understand that there are still many unanswered questions.  Please remain assured that we will keep the lines of communication open and that we will do our best to provide you with information as we receive it.  Please contact our school nurse Mrs. Forrest Weyandt at fweyandt@newportsd.org if your child has any prescription medication needing to be returned from the nurses office during this period of closure.

  • Communication

The Newport School District places a high level of emphasis on communication. This emphasis lends itself to an environment where students will receive the best possible educational experience. The District encourages continual communication between parents and staff to support every student. In order to effectively address and facilitate discussion regarding questions or concerns about your child’s education, the District would like issues to be routed through certain channels for communication. In the event that a question or concern should arise, please first contact your student’s teacher. From that point, the respective building administrator may become involved to help facilitate discussion on an issue. If the issue is unresolved at either of these levels, it will be elevated to the Superintendent for review. Should the need arise, the issue may be presented before the School Board for additional consideration. The Newport School District strives for continual growth and a goal to always put students first. Thank you for your support. Ryan Neuhard, Superintendent
