Newport Alum Named New Pennsylvania FFA Director

We are proud to highlight NHS Alum, Thomas Gabel, who will become the executive director of the Pennsylvania FFA on June 1, 2026. Please see the article from Lancaster Farming. This newspaper has over 56,000 subscribers and is read nationwide. Special thanks to NHS FFA Advisor Natalie Barkley, who has mentored many students who were recognized at the highest level in FFA and went on to pursue successful careers in agriculture-related fields. Gabel also referenced middle school science teacher Mr. Eric McConnel, who recognized his leadership abilities and challenged him to step out of his comfort zone with an inquiry-based teaching style. Thomas will now have the opportunity to positively impact FFA Chapters and students statewide hopefully for many years to come. It’s very rewarding to see Newport Alumni give teachers credit for their success and growth.
